Patrick Svitek is a national political reporter based in Washington, D.C.

Patrick covers campaigns and political breaking news for The Washington Post. He joined the Post in February 2024.
Patrick previously covered Texas politics for nearly a decade. He worked at the Texas Tribune from 2015-2024. Before that, he worked in the Houston Chronicle’s Austin bureau.
Patrick graduated in 2014 from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Before moving to DC, he lived in San Antonio for three years and Austin for seven years.
Patrick currently lives in DC with his wife Camille, son Preston and their chihuahua Murphy.
